Sited on a secluded lake in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, a small weekend house utilizes local materials and construction techniques to create unexpected forms. A simple and energy efficient central living volume has expressed objects attached to it – each with distinct functions and performances. A large double-height entry vestibule and stair is clad inside and out in local bluestone. The chimney stack, a stair connecting the deck to the lake, and an oversized gutter downspout are each expressed to have individual character. The entire house opens up towards the lake. A simple interior material palette foregrounds the changing exterior colors and textures.
